Why Silver is a good metal to work in, is it ok to use scrap?

People ask me ‘Why is silver a good metal to work with?’.

Personally I love the look of silver it has a lighter colour than platinum and white gold it looks brilliant for fashionable pieces.

It’s one of the easiest to work with when you know what you are doing, bending it into the shape you want is just a dream and you don’t need a high fierce heat to get the solder to run Continue reading

Cheap/Trendy jewellery wholesalers

I know a lot of people search ‘Google’ ‘The cheap Jewellery Wholesalers’. It’s not that hard for me as I work in Hatton Garden and is full of Jewellery Wholesalers. So I put myself in your shoes, search Google for cheap but quality materials, there are a lot of websites out there that are not very good. So it got me thinking; how do I know any of these websites are legitimate and true to their word? Then came to me.

What website does anyone use and trusts?

Well it’s eBay of course. Now eBay is not 100% safe and I say safe as in; you can get ripped off. But as long as you check the sale persons feedback, you’ll be fine you don’t have to go with 100% sale persons as Long as its in the high 90′s then I would say it’s pretty safe. But make sure you read the description carefully. I have been caught out before, nothing bad just not what I expected. I purchased some leather bracelets and rubber cord to add silver to make it look more modern and funky. Now this is a winning way to make money without spending a fortune.

The only limit you have is your imagination. If you have worries my advice is; Not to worry and just make it. Everyone makes mistakes and there will be times where you will think it’s going all wrong but in the end you will just make it work. Just believe in your making abilities. The key is to not worry and have fun and enjoy what you do.

Right now get out there and make a brilliant piece

Making your own Jewellery Ideas

Where to start?

Begin by picking from the big label’s that influence you, ie: Tiffany&Co, Boodles or De Beers. Do the research on what’s hot and what not for that season, always best to join a newsletter, that way you are always in the loop of what is up and coming. You will start to notice that every designer tends to be on the same level, you may see earrings with the influence of feathers! then before you know it another designer will come up with a similar idea..Nature!

Now find a piece that you like, this could be a ring? a bracelet? whatever it is feel inspired to make it better! alter it to your design! don’t be scared and think you can’t do this, like I said before anything is possible!

Pick a notebook that you can carry around with you when new ideas pop in your head! Sometimes hardbacks are good so it can protect the pages while in your bag or inside jacket, leaving your ideas nice and crisp!

If it helps, print a picture of your chosen piece and draw on it change or add bits to make it your own! Dont think you are copying cause your not, inspiration is around us and remember they had to be inspired too!

Now whats stopping you!
